Geneva Convention And The Conflict In Turkey (No. 2)

EDM number 61 in 1996-97, proposed by Nigel Jones on 24/10/1996.

That this House notes that common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention, which applies to armed conflict not of an international character, prohibits violence to life and person; regrets the continuation of such a conflict in south east Turkey; and calls upon the Turkish government to invite the International Red Cross to visit the region in order to deliver humanitarian relief to the victims of the conflict and to ensure compliance by the parties to the conflict with their oblications under the Geneva Convention.
