Trading In Toxic Wastes
EDM number 57 in 1996-97, proposed by Alan Meale on 24/10/1996.
That this House recalls that in 1989 over 100 governments throughout the world were signatories to the Basel Convention, a treaty designed to control trading in toxic wastes from the industrialised to developing nations; notes that an amendment to this Convention, banning all toxic exports from the OECD to non-OECD countries forever was finally approved in 1995; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government immediately to ratify the amendment so that legal force may be given to the banning of such trades.
This motion has been signed by a total of 58 MPs.
