Iranian Oil Workers

EDM number 568 in 1996-97, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 24/02/1997.

That this House supports the current struggle of Iranian oil workers for the right to collective bargaining; deplores the fact that the fundamental human rights of workers to organise, strike and seek collective agreement are not recognised by Iran's Islamic regime; notes that thousands of workers have been arrested, tortured and executed for organising strikes and protests; is outraged by the recent violent attack by the regime's Pasdaran militia on demonstrating workers from the Teheran oil refinery; condemns the arrest and detention of 300 workers on 16th February ; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to make strong representations to the Iranian government for the immediate and unconditional release of these workers and to urge that the fundamental rights of all workers in Iran be recognised at once.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
