Human Rights In The Ivory Coast

EDM number 567 in 1996-97, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 24/02/1997.

That this House condemns the persistence of serious human rights abuses in the Ivory Coast, including extra-judicial killings, beatings, arbitrary detentions and torture of detainees by members of the security forces; deplores the repression of the student union FESCI; and calls on the British Government to urge the Ivorian government to end these abuses, to bring those members of the security forces responsible for murder, beatings and torture to justice, to revoke its ban on FESCI, to set free all political prisoners unconditionally, and to do its upmost to safeguardand guarantee to all its citizens the basic human rights of freedom of association and expression.
