Camelot
EDM number 556 in 1996-97, proposed by Denis MacShane on 19/02/1997.
That this House condemns Camelot's plans revealed by the Daily Mirror to extend lottery gambing into people's homes and overseas; considers that efforts by Camelot directors to suborn Oflot and its Director-General, Peter Davies, reveal links between the regulator and companies profiting from lottery gambling which render his position untenable; expresses concern at the high number of under-age children now attracted to gambling by Camelot's advertising and failure to supervise its outlets; and calls upon the Secretary of State for National Heritage to institute an immediate public inquiry into the operations of Camelot with a view to running a lottery system in the interests of the people of Britain.
This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs.
