Art Therapy Services In South East London

EDM number 523 in 1996-97, proposed by Jim Dowd on 12/02/1997.

That this House expresses its support for MSF in its campaign to defend art therapy services in South East London; is opposed to proposals by the Guy's and Lewisham Mental Health Trust to remove art therapy from its adult mental health service from April 1997; believes this cut will have a devastating effect on patients currently receiving this treatment, who include patients who have a long-term mental illness, those who suffer from histories of long-term and acute distress, deliberate self-harm, and parasuicide as well as survivors of sexual abuse; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Health to ensure that health authorities and trusts across London have adequate resources to continue art therapy services.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
