Lewisham And Mercury One 2 One

EDM number 476 in 1996-97, proposed by Jim Dowd on 03/02/1997.

That this House is delighted that Mercury One 2 One has amended its radio adverts to remove a pejorative and mistaken statement about Lewisham; welcomes the company's fulsome apology and prompt action in withdrawing the damaging reference to the borough; notes that those who havenot been to Lewisham may be unaware that it is a successful area where the Council has won many awards for the achievements of its policies and staff, where construction has begun on a cross-river extension of the Docklands Light Railway, and where a multi-million pound renewal of the town centre has been recently completed; notes that its easy access to Central London, its parkland, historic areas, fresh product markets, excellent pubs, nightlife and, most of all, its people make it a vital and advancing part of the capital city; looks forward to its key role in supporting the Millennium Exhibition in neighbouring Greenwich; and extends an invitation to the Chief Executive of Mercury One 2 One, and anybody else, to come and see Lewisham for themselves.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
