European Youth Foundation
EDM number 441 in 1996-97, proposed by Barry Sheerman on 23/01/1997.
That this House condemns the decision of Her Majesty's Government to withdraw from the European Youth Foundation which promotes co-operation between youth organisations across Europe; notes that over 70 different youth groups in the United Kingdom benefited from the Foundation in 1996 alone and that the Foundation is supported by 36 other European nations, including all of our European Union partners; further notes that the entire cost savings is only ú325,000 per year; and contrasts this with the reported plans of the Government to spend millions of pounds on the creating of cadet brigades in every British school.
