INTERIM REPORT OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY'S SELECT COMMITTEE ON CHILD MIGRATION

That this House notes with interest the content of the interim report of the Western Australia Legislative Assembly's Select Committee on child migration, which visited Britain during the autumn; is concerned to learn of their view that, despite assurances from the Department of Health that the British Government's role in the migration of British children was minimal, it was in fact significant, with the possibility of successive Home Secretaries approving the migration of individual boys and girls; and, bearing in mind that many of the approximately 9,000 children sent to Australia under the scheme since the second world war went without their parents' consent or knowledge, calls for a full and detailed statement from the Government on the content of the Select Committee report and the involvement of successive administrations and individual Ministers.
