Trade Union Rights In South Korea

EDM number 403 in 1996-97, proposed by Tony Benn on 15/01/1997.

That this House condemns the action of the South Korean government in pushing legislation reducing employment protection, delaying the legalisation of trade unions and strengthening the powers of the South Korean security services, through an unscheduled 6 a.m. session of parliament, in the absence of the parliamentary opposition; supports the campaign of the South Korean trade unions for this legislation to be withdrawn; and calls upon the South Korean authorities to withdraw any threats of arrest of trade union leaders in pursuit of this dispute and to fully legalise the South Korean trade unions.
