Greek Cypriot Vigil

EDM number 376 in 1996-97, proposed by Tom Cox on 13/01/1997.

That this House pays tribute to the thousands of Greek Cypriots of the United Kingdom and their many British friends who have taken part in the continuous peaceful vigil outside the Turkish Embassy in Belgrave Square, London, to remember and honour the three unarmed Greek Cypriots, Tassos Isaak, Petros Kakoulli and Solomon Spyros, who were brutally murdered by Turkish military forces in Cyprus during August and September 1996; and notes that this vigil, which has lasted over 150 days is a clear expression of the anger of the Greek Cypriot community at the invasion and continuous occupation of their country, and the ongoing denial of human rights and is an example to all people on how to protest with dignity and honour against the murder, in cold blood, of its citizens in their own country.
