World Cup 2006

EDM number 305 in 1996-97, proposed by Tony Banks on 04/12/1996.

That this House notes the meeting between the Prime Ministerand the Football Association to discuss the possibility of England holding the World Cup in 2006; sympathises with the proposal but believes the claim by an African nation to be superior to that of any European country staging the competition yet again; and further believes that the 2006 World Cup should be held in South Africa both as a tribute to that country's welcome return to international sport and as further encouragement to the exciting football developments in many African countries.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
