Funding Of Housing Association Homes On Merseyside

That this House notes with concern that the cuts in housing association funding, arising from the Budget statement of Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, will greatly reduce the number of new homes which will be provided in 1997; notes that the cuts represent a reduction from the promised ú940 million to ú650 million and that this will mean that housing association starts on new homes, nationally, will bereduced to 18,400, that construction jobs will be reduced by thousands, and, that on Merseywide there will be a cut of 850 homes to 650 from the 1,500 first promised; and believes this deplorable and short-sighted decision will severely hit those who are most vulnerabe, who frequently live in deplorable and atrocious housing conditions.
