Live Animal Exports To France
EDM number 269 in 1996-97, proposed by Tony Banks on 27/11/1996.
That this House is appalled that since Friday 22nd November exporters have sent thousands of live sheep to France even though many roads are blockaded by French truck drivers; is concerned that animals exported to France are in danger of being caught up in the dispute and could go for hours, even days, without food, water and exercise; condemns the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food's failure to suspend live exports for the duration of this dispute; and urges Her Majesty's Government to issue stop notices under articles 15 and 16 of the Welfare of Animals During Transport Order 1994 to prevent any more live animals being exported to France until the French truck drivers' action is at an end.
