Ashford Hospital, Middlesex;amdt. Line 1:
EDM number 21A1 in 1996-97, proposed by David Wilshire on 23/10/1996.
leave out from `House' to end and add `notes the clinically and safety driven tendency to concentrate specialist in-patient services in larger hospitals; notes the ending of in-patient paediatric and delivery of baby services at Ashford Hospital in Spelthorne, despite funds being available to maintain these services; further notes the unwillingness of paediatric consultants to work in small units and the unwillingness of general practitioners to support the standing midwife-led maternity unit; and calls on the Government, when approving such changes, to ensure that the safety of patients is put first, that replacement services are as good or better than those they replace, that the role of midwives is protected and enhanced and that steps are taken to ensure that all patients have easy access to relocated services.'.
