Conduct Of The Honourable Member For Brecon And Radnor And Parliamentary Answers
EDM number 187 in 1996-97, proposed by Paul Flynn on 13/11/1996.
That this House reminds the Welsh Office that the Government's advice on 'Drafting Answers to Parliamentary Questions' says 'Do not omit information sought merely because its disclosure could lead to political embarrassment.'; notes that in answer to a question from the honourable Member for Newport West on the number of submissions he had received in favour of nursery vouchers, the member for Brecon and Radnor answered 'The Government's intention of increasing provision for four year olds has been welcomed'; contrasts that with the answer given on 7th November to a further question that revealed that 60 petitions and 4,500 letters were received opposing nursery vouchers and that the 'welcome' in favour mentioned in the previous answer consisted of one letter of support.
This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
