Consideration Of Fishing Issues At The Igc

EDM number 186 in 1996-97, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 13/11/1996.

That this House condemns the Government for their threat to block progress at the IGC as a result of the decision by the European Court of Justice to uphold the working time directive; notes with dismay the response of the President of the Board of Trade that this is the issue that matters to the Government above all other issues at the IGC; notes that this confirms the lack of substance to the Government's previous pledges to prioritise amendments to the Common Fisheries Policy relating to quota hopping and flags of convenience at the IGC; and deplores the fact that the Government would rather stop ordinary people having basic protection and decent holidays than protect the interests and the future of the fishing industry.
