Seal Meat

EDM number 179 in 1996-97, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 13/11/1996.

That this House condemns a planned marketing drive by Canadian seal hunters to promote seal meat products in Europe and the rest of the world; deplores the increase in the number of Canadian seals that can be legally killed for commercial purposes from 186,000 to 250,000; and calls on the British public and retailers to oppose the introduction of seal meat into British supermarkets.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
