Therapeutic Use Of Cannabis
EDM number 158 in 1996-97, proposed by Paul Flynn on 07/11/1996.
That this House applauds the approval of the voters of California and Arizona of the medicinal use of cannabis for treating the symptoms of serious illnesses; notes that cannabis was prescribed in the United Kingdom until 1971 without harmful results; recognises that cannabis sativa is non-addictive, less toxic than aspirin, has never been proved to have poisoned anyone and is more benign than almost all other palliative medicines; recalls that it has been used as a medicine by hundreds of millions of people for 3,000 years in all continents; and calls on the Government to allow its prescription in tablet form for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, cerebral palsy, Aids and the effects of chemotherapy.
This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
