Ballot For Grant Maintained Status: Arthur Mellows Village College
EDM number 156 in 1996-97, proposed by Don Foster on 07/11/1996.
That this House notes with concern reports that governors at Arthur Mellows Village College, Glinton, near Peterborough, circulated false propaganda to parents, predicting staff cuts and sharply rising class sizes if the school did not opt out of local authority control; is greatly concerned that the Secretary of State for Education and Employment apparently believes this could not have influenced the eventual majority vote; is astonished that she has not ordered a re-run of the ballot; urges her to reconsider her decision; and calls upon the Government to abolish the two-tier policy of grant maintained status.
This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
