Nuclear Privatisation (No. 2)
EDM number 984 in 1995-96, proposed by Michael Clapham on 11/06/1996.
That this House is gravely concerned that Ministers have broken pledges made that the nuclear liabilities would follow the asset into the privatised sector and considers the hidden sweeteners, estimated to be worth ú6.9 billion in a recent report produced by a respected nuclear economist, indicate that Parliament has been misled about the terms of the privatisation; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to refer the matter to an independent body such as the Audit Commission to make a full assessment of the implications for the tax payer before the sale is taken further.
This motion has been signed by a total of 50 MPs.
