Middle East Peace Process

That this House notes the wholehearted acceptance by Palestinian President, Yasir Arafat, during his visit to Britain on 3rd and 4th June, of the democratic choice of the Israeli people in electing Binyamin Netanyahu Prime Minister of Israel; welcomes Mr Netanyahu's recent statements expressing his commitment to the Middle East peace process; reminds the incoming Government of Israel that the 1993 Oslo Accord and subsequent agreements are not merely bilateral agreements between Israel and the Palestinians but international agreements which must be honoured in all aspects; hopes for speedy progress towards Israeli withdrawal from Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian territory; and looks forward to the creation of a democratic, independent Palestinian state and lasting guarantees for the security of Israel.
