New Romney Job Club

EDM number 921 in 1995-96, proposed by Mike Hall on 21/05/1996.

That this House condemns the decision of the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, supported by the Right honourable Member for Folkestone and Hythe, to close down the New Romney Jobclub in the remote area of Romney Marsh, Kent; notes that the closure will mean that unemployed people will need to travel up to 20 miles to the nearest jobclub and that the decision was taken despite the fact that bus services do not cover all villages in the area and that unemployed people will have to travel for up to two hours between home and the jobclub which will cost ú5 per day; and also notes that the jobclub shares a joint facility with the local youth club and, that as a result of the closure, the youth club's future has been put at risk, thereby removing the two vital services at a stroke.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
