Housing Benefit For Care Leavers In Scotland

EDM number 899 in 1995-96, proposed by Ray Michie on 16/05/1996.

That this House expresses its deep concern about the Government's proposals for under 25 year olds, limiting their entitlement to housing benefit to that of single room rent only; notes that while the Government has recognised that young people previously in care in England and Wales are especially vulnerable and have been protected from the cuts there are no such provisions in Scotland; and calls on the Government at the very least to guarantee that regulations can be introduced which exempt from housing benefit restrictions all care leavers in Scotland who qualify for after care support under section 29 of the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 or to withdraw the regulation altogether.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
