Costs Of The Scottish Tory Party Conference

EDM number 850 in 1995-96, proposed by Alex Salmond on 08/05/1996.

That this House believes that the costs of security at the Scottish Tory Party Conference which could total up to ú600,000 should be met from the Exchequer and not from the Grampian Police Budget and thus from the pockets of local Council taxpayers in the North East of Scotland; further believes that at a time of great stringency in local government finance with many vital services, including the police, under great pressure it is totally unacceptable for a local community to face such an imposition; and suggests to the Tory Party that this revelation will not improve the already cool reception that their conference will receive in the North East of Scotland.
