Automated Processing Centre For North Staffordshire

EDM number 826 in 1995-96, proposed by Joan Walley on 01/05/1996.

That this House notes that Royal Mail's investment plans include at least 106 automated processing centres throughout the United Kingdom, but that none is currently planned for Stoke on Trent; regrets that Royal Mail did not consult with local authorities and the business community in North Staffordshire when deciding that mail collected in North Staffordshire is to be driven to Wolverhampton to be sorted there; welcomes the support of the Staffordshire Evening Sentinel newspaper for the local campaign; calls on Royal Mail to reconsider its investment plans to ensure they are consistent with accountability to the local community; and calls for an automated processing centre in Stoke on Trent to ensure the future viability of the local economy and a continued service of excellence from Royal Mail for all its customers in North Staffordshire.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
