Wisley Garden And Surrey County Council
EDM number 822 in 1995-96, proposed by Audrey Wise on 30/04/1996.
That this House calls on Surrey County Council to desist from its plans to build a large scale waste processing and incineration plant next door to the world renowned Royal Horticultural Society's garden at Wisley; notes that the proposed industrial complex will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, bringing heavy lorries, congestion, noise, smells and pollution which will blight this precious garden which is of national, scientific and aesthetic importance; further notes, that the proposed complex is likely to cover 20 acres, with buildings up to 100 feet high and a chimney 235 feet high; and considers that if proceeded with, this project would be vandalism and violation of both the green belt and particularly Wisley garden, and would show that Surrey County Council is controlled by people with neither sense nor sensibility.
