EDM number 810A1 in 1995-96, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 14/05/1996.
delete all after 'present' and add 'and a majority of Labour councillors voted to endorse the findings of the Appeal hearing which reinstated Mr Bernard Crofton; further notes that there has been no suggestion, other than under the privilege of this House, that there was any contact whatsoever outside the formal hearings, between Mr Crofton and the Councillors concerned; that Mr Crofton's Trade Union Representative Mr Keith Veness did speak to a number of Labour Councillors about the need for a proper independent Inquiry into recruitment fraud, instead of the secret internal inquiry by Mr Ian Macdonald QC; that Mr Veness was careful not to deal with the matters which formed Mr Crofton's appeal case, that the only member of the Appeal Sub-committee present throughout this discussion was Mr Nicholas Tallentire, and that Mr Nicholas Tallentire voted against Mr Crofton in the Appeal Sub-committee, where one Tory and three Labour Councillors outvoted him, and in the Council meeting , where all the Tory and Liberal Councillors and half of the Labour Councillors outvoted him; and invites Mr Nicholas Tallentire to reconsider his position as Leader of Hackney Council in view of the continuing failure identified by Mr Ian Macdonald QC to implement the list of measures to combat recruitment fraud which Mr Bernard Crofton first recommended to the Council over five years ago.'.
