WIDOWED PARENTS' BENEFITS
EDM number 809 in 1995-96, proposed by Roger Berry on 30/04/1996.
That this House notes that whilst there is a widowed mother's allowance there is no such support for widowed fathers and their children, and that this arises from the benefit system's outdated assumptions about the roles of men and women as parents; believed that motherless children deserve the same opportunities for parental attention and the same living standards as fatherless children; and therefore calls upon the Government to provide equal benefits for all widowed parents and their children.
