David And Frederick Barclay

That this House deplores the action alleging public slander brought in the French criminal court of St. Malo by David and Frederick Barclay, owners of the Ritz, the Scotsman and, with others, the National Enquirer magazine, against the Director-General of the BBC and John Sweeney of the Observer; further deplores the use of French privacy legislation against the Observer to restrict freedom of speech in the United Kingdom; and calls on the Barclay twins to withdraw their actions in the French courts.
