Shipment Of Nuclear Waste

EDM number 783 in 1995-96, proposed by Roseanna Cunningham on 24/04/1996.

That this House calls upon the Australian Government to halt the shipment of nuclear waste from Australia to Dounreay for storage and reprocessing; recognises the additional risk to the people of the Highlands and Islands as well as the additional risk to the coastal communities of the west of Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland which will be incurred by this shipment by sea; supports the call by all local authorities in the Highlands and Islands for a public inquiry into all the issues raised by the importation to Dounreay of international radioactive waste; and trusts that the Australian Government will respect their call for an inquiry by suspending the proposed shipment in the mean time.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
