Mr.john Aldridge

That this House notes the planned retirement of Mr John Aldridge, Chairman and Managing Director of the Leicester Mercury, after 43 years in the newspaper industry; congratulates Mr Aldridge on a life of service to the community, not only through his work at the Mercury but also through time spent at the Grimsby Evening Telegraph, the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph, The Citizen in Gloucester, the Evening Post in Swansea and culminating in his term as President of the Newspaper Society in 1991; recognises his involvement with various charities throughout his career, his unfailing courtesy, integrity and sense of fairplay; and wishes him well in his retirement.
