Tenth Anniversary Of The Chernobyl Disaster

That this House recognises the tenth anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 26th April 1986; deplores the fact that reactors of the same design are still in operation at Chernobyl and elsewhere; draws attention to the effects still being felt in the Ukraine and in Europe including the United Kingdom as highlighted by Medical Action For Global Security; and calls on the G7 nations at their Moscow summit this weekend to recognise the need of the Ukraine to both develop affordable and environmentally sustainable electricity supplies and to take action to ensure that grants and loans are directed towards safety and energy efficiency measures in the short term and a long term strategy for developing renewable energy resources.
