Compensation Award Against T&n Plc (No. 2)

That this House congratulates June Hancock and Evelyn Margereson, residents of Armley, Leeds, together with the honourable Member for Leeds West on the success of their nine year campaign to hold Turner and Newall (T & N plc) to account for polluting their streets with asbestos from the J.W. Roberts factory which operated from the 1880s to 1958; recognises that this case demonstrates that companies cannot pollute neighbourhoods leaving a damaging or lethal legacy; notes that the honourable Member for Leeds West publicised this case through adjournment debates on 25th November 1988, 8th July 1992 and 21st February 1994; and hopes and believes that this historic appeal decision will be a precedent for other parallel compensations for injustice in the future.
