European Union Ban On Leghold Traps

That this House expresses grave concern at reports that the Council of Ministers may decide to postpone the implementation of a ban on the importation of furs caught in non-humane leghold traps into the Europen Union; notes this ban is due to be implemented on 1st January 1996; notes the failure of the International Standards Organisation to agree a humane standard for such traps; welcomes the fact that Russia has already taken steps to end the use of such traps; and calls upon the Government to ensure the Department of Trade and Industry and Foreign Office do not support any moves to postpone this decision.
