Braveheart And Evening Standard
EDM number 675 in 1995-96, proposed by Roseanna Cunningham on 27/03/1996.
That this House expresses its concern at the lack of graciousness exhibited by Max Hastings and the staff of the Evening Standard in their coverage of the magnificent Oscar winning achievements of Mel Gibson and his film Braveheart; finds it unfortunate that in their three critical articles and one hysterical editorial they were unable to accept the success of Braveheart over 'Sense and Sensibility'; and contends that given the nature of the coverage they fully deserve the Australian epithet of whingeing Poms.
