Employment Rights Of Part Time Workers In The North West
EDM number 635 in 1995-96, proposed by Janet Anderson on 19/03/1996.
That this House notes that there are over 600,000 part-time workers in the North West of England, 80 per cent. of whom are women; further notes that part-time workers are particularly vulnerable to unfair dismissals and often have no right to redress, that 222,000 part-time workers in the North West have no rights to paid holiday and that over 200,000 part-time workers in the region earn less than the lower earnings limit and are therefore excluded from maternity pay, incapacity and widows' benefits and unemployment pay; considers this to be a grossly unfair state of affairs; and calls upon the Government to take action to give part-time workers comparable employment rights to their full-time counterparts.
