Shortage Of Speech Therapists
EDM number 633 in 1995-96, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 18/03/1996.
That this House notes with concern a national shortage of speech therapists; notes further that the time lag between initial diagnoses of speech problems in children to the start of their treatment can be over two years and that this time lag most commonly occurs between the ages of three and six years, when for developmental reasons the consequences of non-treatment are most acute; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to bring forward measures to redress the inadequacies in the provision of speech therapy services.
