Audit Commission

EDM number 63 in 1995-96, proposed by Martin Redmond on 20/11/1995.

That this House calls upon the Secretary of State for Health to replace the current arrangement whereby health authorities and trusts are audited by auditors appointed by the Audit Commission who are required by statute to maintain confidentiality of all information with the open reporting auditing from which the NHS benefited for the first 40 years of its existence during which time fraud and maladministration was minimal unlike the scandalous situation which now exists.
