Humane Trapping Standards
EDM number 605 in 1995-96, proposed by Jim Lester on 12/03/1996.
That this House congratulates the Secretary of State for the Environment on obtaining unanimous support in the Council of Environment Ministers for the British lead in standing firm against the import of furs obtained by the use of leghold traps; and further notes that all 15 member states reaffirmed that if a worldwide framework agreement on humane trapping standards has not been concluded by 31st December, the implementation of the European fur import ban would then be inevitable.
