Soya Milk
EDM number 60 in 1995-96, proposed by Nirj Joseph Deva on 20/11/1995.
That this House notes with great concern the Government's unwillingness to stand up and defend British interests and its eagerness to capitulate to yet more nonsense from Brussels by accepting the decision of the European Union that the name of soya milk should be banned in the UK because it is not milk; further notes that this decision if unchallenged will cost the UK soya milk industry millions of pounds to change their packaging and marketing for no good reason except for the sake of European uniformity and that the decision makes a nonsense of the principal of subsidiarity; and accordingly urges Her Majesty's Government to stand up for Britain's interests by demanding that the rationale for the decision be published in full and by making immediate arrangements to challenge the decision of the European Union in the European Union in the European Court of Justice.
