Superintendent Alan Watson

That this House notes that Superintendent Alan Watson, one of the West Midlands police officers responsible for obtaining a false confession from Mr Billy Power, an innocent man convicted of the Birmingham bombings, was the officer in overall charge of the case of Mr Derek Gordon who was persuaded falsely to confess to a murder that he had not committed; notes that Mr Gordon was eventually released and compensated; and further notes that the two detectives under Mr Watson's command were disciplined for falsehood and disobedience to orders and that Mr Watson was interviewed by an assistant chief constable and offered advice.
