European Year Of Lifelong Learning
EDM number 56 in 1995-96, proposed by Harry Greenway on 17/11/1995.
That this House welcomes the designation of 1996 as the European Year of Lifelong Learning; notes the increasing importance of Lifelong Learning to a modern, competitive economy, its contribution to personal development and family life, to the harmonious development of community and civic life and its importance in fostering the continued enjoyment of active citizenship by the growing numbers of retired people; and calls upon the Government to use the opportunity of the Year to ensure that opportunities for learning are extended to all sections of the community and to all age groups.
