Cold Weather Payments In Ilford

EDM number 499 in 1995-96, proposed by Mike Gapes on 22/02/1996.

That this House notes that people living in East London and Essex are being treated unjustly by the present cold weather payments system; deplores the fact that residents of Ilford, Goodmayes and Chadwell Heath in receipt of income support have only been given cold weather payments for one week in 1996, whereas residents of Romford two miles away have received payments for three weeks; notes that the reason given by the Ilford Benefits Agency Office is that Ilford comes under the Heathrow Airport monitoring facilities whereas Romford is assigned to Stansted Airport; and calls for an urgent review of the present bureaucratic nonsense and justice for the residents of Ilford.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
