Water Bills In Scotland And The South West
EDM number 477 in 1995-96, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 21/02/1996.
That this House notes the Government's decision to give Scotland nearly ú90 million to keep down sewerage bills, with each household benefiting from a cut in bills of between ú35 and ú122 as a result; notes that the Government has consistently refused funding to cut bills in the South West, where bills have doubled since privatisation and are the highest in the United Kingdom, due to the 3 per cent. of the population living there being required to pay 33 per cent. of the national clean-up programme; and calls on the Government to follow the precedent set in Scotland and provide the necessary funds to cut water bills in the South West.
This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
