Cancer Treatment At The United Bristol Healthcare Hospital
EDM number 452 in 1995-96, proposed by Dawn Primarolo on 20/02/1996.
That this House is deeply shocked to learn that the United Bristol Healthcare Trust is refusing to provide pain-relieving radiotherapy treatment as Bristol Royal Infirmary for dying cancer patients because of a cash crises as a consequence of Government under-funding of healthcare in Bristol; notes that one of the five radiotherapy machines has been closed and the staff team broken up; is appalled that the quality of life of these vulnerable patients is made worse as a result of this decision and believes that it is totally unacceptable that they should be left at home with inadequate support and care; and therefore calls on the Secretary of State for Health to conduct an immediate inquiry into this decision and to make available as a matter of urgency emergency funds which will enable the hospital to treat these patients.
