Low Pay-No Way Campaign
EDM number 408 in 1995-96, proposed by Martyn Jones on 09/02/1996.
That this House supports the National Union of Students in Wales Low Pay - No Way Campaign launched in confunction with the Wales TUC; notes that this campaign covers the whole of Wales and attempts to raise the profile of poverty pay among students, who because of 15 years of Conservative neglect of student support are often forced into taking poverty pay to fund their courses, which is an unacceptable way to treat anybody in employment let along someone who is trying to co mbine education with employment; and therefore welcomes the Labour Party policy for a minimum wage and the protection of the social chapter which will help students pending a return to proper funding of student support.
