Sanctions Against Nigerian Regime
EDM number 39 in 1995-96, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 15/11/1995.
That this House is appalled that Ken Saro-Wiwa and his Ogoni colleagues have been executed after what have been internationally condemned as show trials; condemns the Nigerian Government for its refusal to commute the death sentences; calls on the British Government to halt all imports of Nigerian oil, to impose widespread sanctions on the regime, including a ban on the sale of all military equipment and to put pressure on Shell to completely withdraw from Nigeria in protest at these appalling human rights abuses and the failure of the regime to return the country to democracy.
This motion has been signed by a total of 46 MPs.
