EDM number 382 in 1995-96, proposed by Roy Beggs on 06/02/1996.

That this House calls upon the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to defer implementation of the proposed changes announced on 21st December 1995 for home to school/college transport for the 1996-97 school year; recommends an extended consultation period with all interested parties; and urges the Department of Education for Northern Ireland and education and library boards to devise a more effective and efficient system applicable from September 1997, capable of providing significant savings in home to school/college transport costs, while preserving entitlement to free transport between home the nearest appropriate school or college for all primary, post-primary and post-16 years pupils/students where no suitable school exists within statutory walking distance.
