Conduct Of Right Honourable Member For Henley And Late Payment
EDM number 371 in 1995-96, proposed by Jon Owen Jones on 02/02/1996.
That this House condemns the comments made by the Deputy Prime Minister at a private Conservative Party dinner on Monday in which he admitted he was a late payer and 'quite skilful at stringing along the creditors'; urges the Right honourable Member for Henley to apologise at once to the business community and publicly denounce late payment as a legitimate business practice; and believes that the Government should support the Private Members Bill to give businesses the statutory right to charge interest on late payments and that the Government should allow time for this to be debated by the House on a free vote.
